What cookies do

Cookies are small pieces of information that a website can ask your browser to store and return on later requests. Similar technologies, including local storage, can keep information on a device without sending it automatically with every page request.

These technologies can support useful preferences, but they can also be used to measure activity or track people across services. Non-essential storage requires an appropriate choice before it is used where consent is required by law.

Storage used by this publication's page code

The editorial pages and accompanying script do not set cookies, write to local storage or use analytics and advertising trackers. The mobile navigation and scroll reveals operate in page memory. Their state is not saved as a profile between visits.

The Contact letter tool also works in memory. It does not save your name, email or message as a draft. The site does not include third-party video players, map embeds, remote fonts or social widgets that would be loaded merely by reading an article.

Clipboard, downloads and cache

A clipboard copy and a downloaded file are not cookies. They can nevertheless contain personal information, so keep control of them on shared devices. Remove the file or replace the clipboard contents when appropriate.

Your browser may cache pages, styles, scripts and illustrations as part of normal browsing. Browser autofill may also remember information according to your own settings. These functions are controlled by your browser, not by a draft-saving feature on this site.

Your controls

You can inspect, block or remove cookies and site data through your browser's privacy settings. You can separately clear cached files, download history and autofill entries. The exact controls depend on your browser and device.

No optional analytics or advertising service is activated by the editorial page script. If optional services are introduced, their purpose and storage details must be disclosed and consent obtained before they are activated where required.

Following an external link takes you to a service with its own cookie and privacy practices. Check that service's notices and choices. Merely linking to an organisation does not give Roverbravil control over its storage technologies.
